EMS

EMS stands for Emergency Medical Services — but on Takashima, the term covers both branches of emergency response: law enforcement and healthcare. The people who show up when things go wrong.

These are among the most demanding roles on the server. They respond to the consequences of everything else — the aftermath of gang wars, the victims of crime, accidents, and medical emergencies. They are reactive by nature, and their effectiveness shapes the entire dynamic of the island.

Law Enforcement

Takashima's police force is player-run. Officers patrol, investigate, make arrests, and build cases. There are no auto-detecting systems — if a crime goes unwitnessed, it may go unpunished. If an investigation is poorly handled, a case collapses.

Law enforcement RP includes:

  • Patrol — maintaining a visible presence, responding to calls, and keeping order
  • Criminal investigation — gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, building prosecutable cases
  • Arrests & processing — detaining suspects, respecting due process, working with the legal system
  • Tactical operations — coordinated responses to high-risk situations like hostage scenarios or armed standoffs
  • Inter-agency politics — police departments have internal hierarchies, budgets set by government, and relationships with prosecutors and courts

Officers operate under the law as it stands — which is defined by the government. Policy can change. What an officer is authorised to do today may be different next month.

Healthcare

Takashima's medical system is built around realistic injury and treatment RP. Damage is specific — different injuries require different responses — and the quality of care matters. A poorly handled emergency can cost a character their life.

Medical RP includes:

  • Emergency response — arriving on scene, stabilising patients, making triage decisions under pressure
  • Surgery — detailed, procedural operations on injured characters using the server's medical systems
  • Diagnosis & treatment — identifying conditions, managing recovery, and following up on patients
  • Trauma RP — the human side of emergency medicine, including the weight of loss when treatment fails

The medical team works closely with law enforcement — they share scenes, share information, and sometimes have conflicting priorities. A doctor's obligation is to the patient regardless of who they are.

Laboratory Research

Beyond emergency response, Takashima's medical world includes a research dimension. Using the server's chemistry system, medical researchers can conduct lab work to study substances, identify compounds, and develop new medications.

This opens up a slower, more investigative side of medical RP:

  • Analysing unknown substances seized by law enforcement or found in the field
  • Developing and testing new treatments or pharmaceutical compounds
  • Researching the effects of drugs — legal and illegal — on the human body
  • Collaborating with the university's medical faculty on academic projects

Research findings have real consequences. A new medication developed through proper lab work can enter circulation. An analysis of a criminal's drug supply can become evidence in court.

The Reality of EMS RP

EMS roles are not always glamorous. You wait, then you respond. Cases are often urgent, sometimes chaotic, and occasionally fatal. The best EMS players are disciplined, communicate well, and stay in character under pressure.

It is also one of the most socially connected roles on the server — EMS characters interact with almost everyone, from the criminal bleeding out in an alley to the politician in need of a discreet physician.
